NC-Based Piedmont Triad Ambulance and Rescue Deploys Next Generation Wireless Network

In Motion Technology Improves Emergency Communications, Response Times, and Coordination among First Responders

High Point, North Carolina, January 28, 2008 – In Motion Technology, a leader in wireless mobile communications systems for public safety organizations, today announced that Piedmont Triad Ambulance and Rescue, headquartered in High Point, North Carolina, has deployed In Motion’s onBoard ™ Mobile Gateway to improve emergency operations and coordination with other first responders.

The onBoard Mobile Gateway is installed in emergency vehicles to create a “vehicle area network.” This network integrates all data communications, including medical devices, patient care records, GPS, driver and safety monitoring and dispatch systems. It allows the seamless transmission of information between these systems in the field and operations command.

When a Gateway-equipped ambulance arrives at a hospital, it has taken the fastest, satellite-guided route, has wirelessly transmitted patient information to the ER in advance, and has printed patient care record on-board the vehicle – all of which provides critical data to emergency personnel at the speed necessary to save lives.

Piedmont Triad Ambulance and Rescue is a franchise of Guilford County EMS, which also has deployed In Motion’s onBoardTM Mobile Gateway in county-operated emergency vehicles. Because the Gateway has been deployed throughout the area, emergency dispatchers now have an unparalleled ability to identify the closest emergency vehicle to an incident scene, regardless of whether it is operated by Guilford County or by Piedmont Triad Ambulance and Rescue.

Since 1971, Piedmont Triad has provided Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS), rescue service, convalescent and wheelchair transport services, and “stand-by” service for special events in the Piedmont Triad area. Its mission is “to provide the best possible care for patients by providing the best equipment and training for our personnel.”

“The Gateway, working with our other systems, enables our drivers to get out of the station and to the scene faster,” said Paula Lineberry, Chief of Piedmont Triad Ambulance and Rescue. “It also enables dispatchers to track the location of each vehicle at all times. This has resulted in a more efficient use of our assets, lower fuel consumption, faster response times, and better patient care for the residents of central North Carolina.”

The onBoard Mobile Gateway is deployed in more than 90 communities nationwide, and provides emergency vehicles with mobile, secure, wireless communications. The Gateway senses and selects the best available wireless network, enabling first responders to access and disseminate critical information from the field.

“First responder organizations like Piedmont Triad Ambulance and Rescue are experiencing improved response times and operations by deploying this technology,” said In Motion Technology CEO Kirk Moir. “Their choice of In Motion Technology for vehicle communications will improve emergency communications, operations and life-saving patient care.”
